Two Canadian women on an exchange programme in Kumasi have allegedly been kidnapped in the Ashanti Regional capital.
Police in the region have been tight-lipped on the Monday night incident which occurred around Vienna City.
Checks by 3news.com revealed the two women, one of whose name has been given as Lauren, were forced into a vehicle at about 8:20pm just when they stepped out of their apartment at Silver Spring Avenue.
It is unclear whether the abductors have made contact with the family of the victims or the Canadian embassy to demand for ransom.
Sources however say the Canadian Embassy Ghana, which is aware of the incident, is assisting the Ghana Police to rescue the two victims, 3news.com gathered Wednesday.
Lauren and her other colleague who are on exchange programme with the Entrepreneurship Department of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), are said to be part of a volunteer group working in Ghana.
Indian kidnapped in April
Monday’s kidnapping incident becomes the second in Kumasi in less than two months.
A 30-year-old Indian man was on April 25 kidnapped by some gun-wielding men who later demanded for a $500,000 ransom after sending photos of the victim to his with a gun pointed to his head.
But Police in the region managed to rescue Umpakan Chodri the next day. He was said to have begged some women for help from a house on the premises of Akokoamon Primary/JHS School where he sought refuge.
He was able to contact his family with the help of the women and the Police were informed leading to a raid and his subsequent rescue.
