Ashanti: Police Butcher Driver, 33
Some policemen in the Ashanti Region have allegedly beaten and butchered a 33-year-old driver, causing his death shortly after.
The incident is said to have happened on Tuesday.
Some residents at Adomfe in Asante Akyem South District who witnessed the incident have been narrating the incident in separate radio interviews on how the said policemen allegedly beat and butchered the driver.
Speaking to Accra based Starr FM, for instance, an eyewitness said about seven police officers with three in uniform stormed the area for an operation and had an altercation with the deceased.
They were said to have pushed him to the ground, kicked and punched him in the face before some of the policemen started butchering him with a machete.
The Assembly Man for the area, Samuel Kofi Boadu told Starr FM that the policemen who were on patrol were reportedly searching for one Mr Kankam and another Yaa Yaa who live in the area.
He said since they did not find these individuals, they ransacked their homes and did not find anything as well.
He said when they were returning from the girl’s place, they met two guys and grabbed them.
One of them is said to have asked what he had done, and in trying to explain, they started beating him up, and one of the policemen went to the patrol vehicle and took a machete to attack him.
He said after cutting the person, those around there started approaching the police, and on realizing that the mob was increasing they started giving out warning shots, about and put the victims in the patrol vehicle and sped off.
Mr Boadu said he called the district police commander to find out but got notified that no police personnel were deployed to the area.
The District Police Commander for the area, Superintendent Anyani Andrews has since confirmed the incident and explained that the policemen involved are not from his station, but from the Konongo Division.
