Swedru: 4 Armed Suspects Arrested By Police
The police in the Central Region have picked up four armed men said to have been contracted by some politicians to either harm or kill their opponents.
The Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong has confirmed the arrest to Graphic Online.
She said the Swedru Divisional police patrol team arrested the suspects, Sadick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatau on Saturday October 17, 2020 around 10:17pm based on intelligence.
She said that the team proceeded to a hotel where the suspects were lodging and met the heavily built men with suspicious movement lodging in rooms 8 and 9 and after a search, a knife was found on Dauda, a cutlass was also found in room 8, which was being occupied by Addea.
She said that a search was further conducted in room 9 which was being occupied by Kunya and Abubakar and a lighter was found in the room as well as two cheques in the sum of GH₵50,000 were also found on Fatau and Kunya.
She noted that the suspects are being held by the police together with the exhibits while further investigations are ongoing.
Asked whether the suspects had confessed that they had been contracted by Mr Paul Ofori-Amoah, the Agona West National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary nominee to kill the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and Minister of Gender, Cynthia Mamle Morrison as being speculated in the area, Irene Oppong said the police do not have information to that effect since investigation was still ongoing.
NDC reacts
Meanwhile the opposition NDC in the Agona West Constituency has reacted to the speculation and suggestions that Mr Paul Ofori-Amoah has been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.
The NDC described as “fake news” suggestions that Mr Ofori-Amoah has been arrested.
A press statement issued by the NDC constituency communication officer, Mr Abdul Wahab Munkaila asked the public to disregard the news that Mr Ofori-Amoah has been arrested.
“I wish to call on our teeming supporters and sympathizers to treat the fake news with the contempt it deserves” he stated.
