Asantehene Marks 69th Birthday With Thanksgiving Service

A commemorative birthday thanksgiving Mass, was on Monday held at the Saint Cyprian”s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi, to mark the 69th birthday celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The Asantehene turned 69 today, May 6, 2019 and the well-attended occasion formed part of events marking the 40 day-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of his enstoolment, as the 16th occupant of the golden stool.

Intercessory prayers for the king and the royal family, as well as the people of Asanteman, was a special feature in the grand Mass.

It was attended by high profile personalities such as Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief Justice, Madam Sophia Akuffo, Chief of Staff, Mrs Akosua Frema Opare, parliamentarians, Ministers of state, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, the clergy, traditional leaders and well-wishers.

The Right Reverend Nuh-Ben Abubekr, a retired Bishop of the Diocese of the Methodist Church, in a short sermon, recounted the great leadership skills exhibited by the Asantehene since his ascension unto the throne in 1999.

He said the Asantehene, through his education foundation provided infrastructure, teaching and learning materials and scholarships award schemes to help improve educational delivery in the Country.

Rt Rev. Abubekr, praised Otumfuo Osei Tutu, for championing the peaceful settlements of the long chieftaincy feud in the Dagbon traditional area, as well as providing playing prominent roles in resolving delicate national issues.

“The recent efforts in making sure that peace reigned at Dagbon, was highly commended by all,” he added.

He prayed to God to continue to strengthen the Asantehene and give him wisdom to continue to provide the rightful leadership, to make Asanteman a model traditional kingdom, not only in Ghana but the entire African continent.
