An Accra District Court has asked the attorney working on the Bill of Indictment of the two suspects being held for the murder of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, J. B. Danquah-Adu to appear before it on October 11.
According to the court, the said attorney should appear before it and tell the court the timelines as to when the bill of Indictment would be ready and explain reasons for the delay.
During today’s sitting, Ms Aret Nsemoh, the trial Judge, said she was expecting to see the Bill of Indictment on the case docket but there was none and asked prosecution what had gone wrong.
According to the Magistrate, the prosecution at the last sitting gave the impression that the Bill of Indictment would be ready today for committal proceeding to kick start.
The magistrate said “I need to see the one working on the case docket. I can’t keep on adjourning the matter. If the person in charge does not appear in court, I will take it to be bad faith. Whoever is working on the Bill of Indictment should tell the timelines as to when the Bill of Indictment would be ready.”
Ms Nsemoh recalled that the Police had stated earlier that their challenge bordered on the Autopsy report which had been delayed by the Pathologist.
“Now that the autopsy report is in what else is also causing the delay?” the Judge asked.
She further tasked the two suspects, namely Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy dondon and Vincent Bossu aka Junior Agogo to inform their lawyers to attend court.
The Magistrate said she has not been seeing their lawyer in court any time the case was called.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) George Amega told the court that the Attorney General’s Department was working on the Bill of Indictment.
According to DSP Amega, he could not tell when the said state attorney working on the bill of Indictment would complete work on the case docket.
DSP Amega, said “we are hoping that by the next adjourned date they will work on the case docket so that committal hearing would start”.
Asiedu is standing trial with Vincent Bossu, and they have denied knowledge of the crime.
The late J. B. Danquah-Adu was murdered in his house in 2016 at Shiashie. The two suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with murder following the incident.
The accused persons have had their pleas preserved and they have been remanded into Prison custody.
Asiedu and Bossu have been jointly charged with abetment of crime. Asiedu is additionally being held for a charge of murder.
