Ghana’s former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is reported dead.
He was said to have collapsed at the Air Force Gym in Accra, where he was exercising and pronounced dead, when rushed to the 37 Military Hospital.
President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo took to Facebook to express shock and sadness at his sudden death and said “Ghana has lost a fine public servant”.
“He has been a long standing public servant, who discharged his duties with dignity.
The news of his death is unfortunate since he appeared to have a lot to contribute to the public life of our country”, he posted.
President Akufo-Addo said his thoughts and sympathies were with his wife, children and family.
He also extended his deepest condolences to the former President John Dramani Mahama under whose Administration, the deceased, served as Vice President, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Amissah-Arthur, an economist, academician and politician, was Ghana’s sixth Vice President.
He served in office from August 06, 2012, to January 07, 2017.
He had also at different points in time, served as Deputy Finance Minister, and Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BOG)
He was 67, and is survived by a wife, Matilda and two children – Kwesi Nyan Amissah-Arthur and Araba Amissah-Arthur.
His death brings to three, the number of former Vice Presidents’ the nation had lost in the Fourth Republic.
