GH Music Industry Favours Male Acts- Queen Ayorkor

THE Ghanaian music industry is dominated by males with a small number of females who have to fight hard to keep up.

For Afrobeats artiste Queen Ayorkor, the situation is so because the industry is naturally skewed towards male acts.

“Female musicians go through a lot in getting their works out there unlike the males. How many DJs will be willing to promote a song from a female if they don’t have anything to offer? If you don’t have serious management to push your songs then forget about it,” she told Graphic Showbiz.

According to Queen Ayorkor, real name Naa Adjetey Ayorkor, event organisers will always book more males for shows and they also get all the juicy contracts and endorsements.

“It is hard to see a major show in Ghana with females dominating. It is not possible and it all boils down to the industry favouring the men,” she said.

Queen Ayorkor praised females who are still doing great despite the huge influence the males have.

“I respect the likes of Efya, Wendy Shay, Wiyaala most especially the late Ebony who did extremely well when she was alive. The female Gospel musicians are also doing so well,” she stated.

A third-year student of the University of Ghana studying Theatre Arts, Queen Ayorkor is planning to release her newest single Saa Side Hɔ on April 3.

Recorded by sound engineer Fox, Saa Side Hɔ talks about cheating men and how many of them refuse to apologise to their ladies  when they cheat.

Signed on to West Jam Entertainment managed by Emmanuel Nutakor, Queen Ayorkor released her first single Fire when she participated in the Empawa project by musician Mr Eazi. She has other songs including Ayalolo, Baa Sumo Mi, Ha Ni Maya and Odo.

The singer, who has had the opportunity to perform at places such as + 233, The Piano Bar, Live Wire, and Alliance Française has in the past backed Stephanie Benson and Irene Logan.

Her favourite musicians are Efya, Sista Afia, Adomaa, Cina Soul and Stephanie Benson.
