Ghana Armed Forces Arrests Three Soldiers For Alleged Extortion
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested three soldiers for allegedly extorting money from some illegal miners in the Wassa Akropong area.
The soldiers, together with some accomplices, allegedly engaged in that illegal operation whilst on duty with Operation Vanguard.
A press statement issued by the Command, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, said the Military High Command frowned on such misconduct by troops.
It had accordingly suspended the soldiers from their duties and placed them under close arrest at the 2nd Battalion of Infantry in Takoradi.
The statement said detailed investigations were being conducted into the case and stern disciplinary action would be taken against them if found culpable.
It assured the public that under no circumstance would it condone such unprofessional conduct by any member of the Force.
The statement said personnel of Operation Vanguard would continue to perform its assigned task to ensure that the mandate was achieved.
