Government Dissolves Ghana Football Association

The Government has with immediate effect dissolved the Ghana Football Association (GFA), a day after the airing of the documentary, which captures officials of the football governing body, including its president, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi involved in acts of fraud, corruption and bribery.

A statement signed by Dr. Hamid Mustapha, Minister of Information and made available to the GNA Sports, said “having regard to the widespread nature of the apparent rot involving top officials of the GFA, the National Sports Authority (NSA), match commissioners, football administrators and referees, the government has decided to take immediate steps to dissolve the GFA.

“The Government would communicate these actions to the Confederation of Africa Football and the Federation of International Football Association to engage them on the developments to chart the way forward for Ghana Football.

“The Government would ensure that the necessary reforms are urgently undertaken to sanitise football in the country,” the statement added.

According to the statement, Government was shocked and outraged at the contents of the video documentary aired by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

The statement said, the conduct of the officials of the GFA and the suspended Acting Director of the NSA, Mr. Robert Sarfo Mensah who were shown to be involved in questionable, potentially criminal acts has been referred to the police for further investigations and appropriate actions.

Aremeyaw Anas, on Wednesday June 6, premiered the much anticipated documentary which captured officials of the GFA, NSA, referees and match commissioners engaged in acts of bribery and corruption.
