Seven pregnant girls, six nursing mothers writing BECE in Kadjebi

Seven pregnant girls and six nursing mothers are among the candidates writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.

Madam Emma Asilevi, Kadjebi District Girl-child Education Officer, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.

GNA’s visit to the six examination centres in the district confirmed this.

While KASEC centre “A and ” B” had one pregnant girl and five nursing mothers sitting for the examination, DOPASS Centre ‘A’ and “B” recorded five pregnant girls and one nursing mother.

Dodo-Amanfrom “A and” B” registered a pregnant girl.

Madam Asilevi reiterated the need for the student to stay away from premarital sex and concentrate on their books.

In the 2024 BECE, the district recorded two pregnant girls and five nursing mothers sitting for the examination, as compared to nine pregnancies and 16 nursing mothers in 2023 BECE.

A total of 1,457 candidates including 765 males and 702 females, are expected to write the examination in the district.

Heavy rain, which lasted for an hour, caught the GNA by surprise during the tours to the examination centres.
