Ghana Card To Serve As e-passport In 4000 Airports Globally
By the end of first quarter of 2022, the Ghana Card will be recognized globally as an e-passport and can be read and verified in all International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) compliant borders.
This means the Ghana Card will be accepted as an e-passport in 199 borders globally and 4000 airports in the world.
When this happens, holders of the Ghana Card will be allowed to board any flight to Ghana by just showing the Ghana Card.
Furthermore, Ghanaians in the diaspora, who hold the Ghana Card should not have to obtain visas to travel to Ghana.
This is when the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) is linked to the National Identification Authority (NIA) architecture, which according to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be soon.
Vice President Bawumia made this known when he delivered a public lecture on how Ghana’s economy was being digitalized.
The lecture was held at the Ashesi University on Tuesday night.
