A 34-YEAR-OLD Information and Communications Technology (ICT) teacher of the Awisen/Kayera MA JHS in the Offinso District, Mr Martin Opoku Asamoah, is appealing to the public and philanthropists to help him raise US$30,000 to undergo a renal transplant in India.
Mr Asamoah has been diagnosed with End-Stage Kidney Disease and is currently undergoing haemodialysis at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
He has since June this year been undergoing haemodialysis twice weekly.
A letter to seek financial support issued to him by Dr Ellit Korankeng Tannor, Senior Specialist Physician Nephrologist, and Professor Bernard Nkum, Head of Department of Medicine, said the patient’s condition had been complicated by severe anaemia, severe hypertension and pulmonary oedema.
The letter said the patient was currently “on admission for Klebsiella pneumonia and on IV ciprofloxacin according to sensitivity pattern.”
The patient has been advised to consider renal transplantation “as a means to improve his survival and quality of life and is seeking support to do so,” the letter stated
The Offinso Municipal Directorate of Education for its part is also seeking support for their ailing staff to help him undergo the transplant.
A letter dated October 15, 2019 and signed by the District Director of Education, Ms Joyce Aduama, appealed to all basic schools in the municipality for support for Mr Asamoah.
