Coalition Calls On City Authorities To Enforce Sanitation Bye-Laws

The Coalition of Fun Clubs at the weekend embarked on a massive clean-up exercise in the Sunyani Municipality and called on the city authorities to enforce sanitation bye-laws to keep the city clean.

The more than 500 members of the coalition were drawn from five fun clubs – Quality fun club, Peace fun club, Ideas Social fun club, Parliament fun club, and Royals fun club in the Municipality.

They cleared choked gutters at the Sunyani Central Business District area, swept major principal streets of the capital and picked and dumped plastics waste during the exercise which lasted over five hours.

Mr Kofi Korankye, the Chairman of the Coalition, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), regretted that Sunyani was gradually becoming filthy due to loitering and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He appealed to the Municipal Assembly to place dustbins and refuse containers at vantage points for waste collection.

Mr Korankye said the clean-up exercise, initiated by Mr Kwaku Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani, was not only aimed at keeping the city clean, but as a means to promote peaceful co-existence between followers of the various political parties.
