Police Officer Killed By Armed Robbers In Mankessim
A Police officer, Lance Coporal Kingsley Boahen, has been shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The incident is said to have happened at about 4am Wednesday when the police officer had gone jogging.
According to the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Irene Serwaa Oppong, the suspected robbers had earlier stormed the Zen filling station on the Mankessim-Assin Fosu road and robbed the facility at around 1:30am.
She said the police managed to foil the operation of the robbers after heated gun exchanges.
According to her, two of the suspected robbers were injured and they [the robbers] retreated into a nearby plantation.
According to DSP Oppong, the police later received information that a shooting incident had taken place near the scene of the robbery.
She said preliminary investigations indicated that Lance Corporal Kinsley Boahen who was in plain clothes walking along the road, had been shot and killed by the robbers.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital while investigations continue.
